mission 2011
With 20-20 gaining in popularity i'm glad that t no consequence bilateral ( ya all of those best of 5 n 7's n wht not)will be coming to an end sooner or later.so what matters in 50-50 format will b the big tournaments like the world cup in 2011.so what can we do to get the cup back esp. when this would be played back home.
So welcome to ma fantasy world, hope u enjoy the ride.
i'd like to discuss this in 2 major sections which are following-
1. Batting
2. Bowling
1. BATTING
Well honestly speaking, the only senior i see playing till then is Sachin but given the frequency of his injuries nothing can b said for sure.all we can be is hopeful.
I feel that B.C.C.I. would have an extremely important role to play here.these no good bilateral series have to be done away with.i mean what purpose does it serve?last thing we need, is to see a Yuvraj,Dhoni or Sachin miss imp tournaments due to excessive cricket.
OPENING SLOTS
Make no mistakes about it,this WC will not be in symphony with that in 1996.reason is a simple one that this is scheduled in feb-march,the end of winter season unlike t 96 WC which was played in subcontinental summers with flat tracks all around.(who can forget t great spell of manoj prabhakar against sanath.he pounded him like bi**h in Delhi.)
Thus we will need to mix caution with aggression.so my picks for opener would be 1.GHAMBIR 2. SACHIN 3. SEHWAG/ROBIN UTHAPPA
Sehwag has seen the lows so i'd guess there is no reason to believe why he'l have another slump in form. my pick will b t nawab of najafgarh any day.i'd prefer sehwag 1 down for the simple fact that
1. i'd expect ball to do a bit in initial overs and sehwag relies on hand eye coordination rather that precise footwork.
2. besides this, with one power play in hands of batting team ( hopefully according to new guidelines) shewag can act as our power man for power plays and
3. a left(gautam)-right(sachin) start gives bowlers something to think about.
Another point i'd like to raise here is that sachin should not be pushed down.he can play a sheet anchor or explode so we need him to play his natural way.if some of us still have any doubts i'd advice u to pick up on india's n sachin's record in 96-2003 & 99-2007.i need'nt say any further.besides this we have the fire power along with adaptability in middle order.
Now to the middle order.
4. YUVI 5.ROHIT SHARMA/SURESH RAINA/BADRI 6. DHONI
For 5th place i'd say the real choice would b between rohit and badri.both can adapt to situation unlike raina who i feel has a single dimensional game.but still depending on form he might come in.another man who might find a place is viraat Kohli.i feel he is a bit arrogant ( t kind of behavior he portrayed against s.a. in finals of under 19 WC was unacceptable, given t fact he was t captain and Sydney fiasco had broken out just some time back. people were pointing fingers at Indian players he should have been more responsible). hopefully though, he would have gained some experience till 2011.(even more so if bilateral series continued).
BOWLING
4 specialist bowlers is what will be required along with an all rounder.
7. IRFAN/YUSUF PATHAN
Depending on what we need.this just might be t weak link in our team.a slower irfan with lack of swing would be easy picking for likes of aus,s.a. with strong middle and lower batting order. similarly yusuf isn't a big turner of the ball and his batting is quite erratic. with Aussies having likes of watson/symo out task is cut out.i don't see other options for now but if Irfan can find his rhythm in time & may b add atleast 5 k's of pace he would be extremely useful.
8. ZAHEER 9. ISHANT 10. R.P. SINGH/GONI/SANGHWAN 11.harbajan/murli kartik/ojha/chawla
Our bowling hopes hinge on no. 8 & 9.hopefully they'd be fully fit. 3 seamers-2 spinners or 1 spinner 4 seamers would depend on choice of our allrounder. R.P. is quite good when fit.goni can improve a lot,he is one of those who hits t deck.sanghwan is also learning quite quickly.
For spinners i feel harbajan would make the cut.but to be fair murli kartik has'nt been given his fair share of his chances.in comparison to chawla n ojha i feel he has an upper hand simply because of t fact that he has more experience.a spinner who flights the ball needs this for smaller grounds like those in the subcontinent.but given the fact that 2 yrs r still left, fitness issues might just turn out to be t decisive criteria.

You think Tendulkar will play 2011 world cup?
i really don't think so...but if he does it will be good..i hav a feelin this time we can even do it without him...
i am a sachin fan, but i don't expect to see him play the 2011 world cup. but i agree with you that indian team can do well without him now..
if sachin will play the 2011 WC..
besides, i dont agree with murali kartik not been given enough chances.
I think he is highly overrated spinner and there are more variations in his hair style than his bowling deliveries. I guess he has been given more than what he deserves and should not be even in the reckoning for the 2011 WC.
i dont know why u say that, can u explain to me why after the last match of 7 match series at home against aussies and t odd 20-20 in which he performed quite well was he dropped?i feel it has been more a question of having likes of harbajan n kumble playing rather than him not performing.i agree though he may not be in reckoning for wc 2011,but still i feel he has an imp role to play in indian cricket.besides,i think you should compare his performance vis-a-vis harbhajan to get a fair result.in terms of performance harbhajan has performed quite poorly in recent times but his on & off-field antics hav overshadowed that fact.
because i dont follow ODI cricket much these days..
but let me look up the stats and then will come back on this
Murali has been a decent bowler recently but still not a bowler I would look forward to have in the team.
he has played only a couple of international matches in last few years.. and he might have done ok in those matches..
but a decent performance in 1-2 matches mean nothing.. what i am trying to say here is that since his past performance (especially in test matches) is below decent, he should not have been in the team for those 1-2 matches in the 1st place..
the fact that he did well in recent matches and in T-20 is irrelevant..
i looked up the stats and this is what I found.
He has played a total of 37 ODIs and has taken 37 wickets at an economy rate of more than 5 an over. More importantly, only in 3 of those matches has he managed to take 3 or more wickets. He has taken 2 wickets in quite a few games and which means there are plenty of games where he took 0 wickets.
In the year 2007, when he played 7 matches, he took 10 wickets one of which was the match-winning 6/27 againt Australia.
However, inspite of taking 6 in a single game, his total tally was only 10. So if we exclude that one match, he took 4 wickets in 6 matches and gave away almost 6 runs an over.
I rest my case.
k...seems that facts r on yor side.vaise it would be interesting 2 see harbhajan's record less 2001 performance.
I dont have the numbers for bhajji right now
I agree that bhajji is not a very consistent performer and had quite a few rough patches in his career.. and not to mention is off-field controversies.
However, I think that his record in India is pretty impressive.. also, he has bowled quite a few match-winning .spells in both tests and ODIs.. and both home and away.
thats the reason why i trust harbhajan more than murali kartik.
also, now after kumble's retirement, harbhajan is the leading spinner in the team and lets see how he handles the added responsibility.. I hope he would now focus more on his bowling than his other dramas..

Agreed, Bhajii has been inconsistent. He is only a good spinner, still not a great one. Now that he will be India's frontline spinner, let's see how he takes the responsibility.
so far he has done quite well..
he bowled brilliantly in the last test at nagpur.. and now in ODIs too, he has been pretty consistent..
but yes, the real test will be when India tours overseas.. lets wait for that now
Bwahahahahahahahhahahhhhaaa
His hairstyles had a doosra, a straighter one, the drift, the top spinner .. everything his bowling did not have.
mrigank babu ka approval mil gaya
My team,
If Sachin plays
1 Sachin
2 Sehwag
3 Gambhir
4 Yuvraj
5 MS Dhoni
6 Raina\Pathan\Rohit Sharma (based on form)
7 Irfan\Yusuf Pathan (based on form and opponent)
8 Bhajji
9 Zaheer Khan
10 Ishaant Sharma
11 RP singh\Munaf Patel (based on form)
If Sachin does not play
1 Sehwag
2 Gambhir
3 one of Raina\Pathan\Rohit Sharma (based on form)
4 Yuvraj
5 MS Dhoni
6 one of Raina\Pathan\Rohit Sharma (based on form)
7 Irfan\Yusuf Pathan (based on form and opponent)
8 Bhajji
9 Zaheer Khan
10 Ishaant Sharma
11 RP singh\Munaf Patel (based on form)
but if he does not play, then we need to have at least 2 more batsmen in consideration.. in sachin's absence, we have 4 players - raina, sharma, pathan and pathan.. and we need to play 3 of them.. given the fact that none of them have been very consistent and thus their inclusion depends solely on form.. this is too risky i think..
what if more than 1 is out of form??
